Organization of labor and control of occupational safety observance, prevention of occupational traumatism are carried out in all branches of IDGC of the North-West according to the Regulation on occupational safety control system.

The frequency rate of total injuries decreased from 1.086 in 2011 to 0.94 in 2012 but remained lower than the 2010 value. In 2012 one incident involving a fatal injury occurred. On February 18, 2012, due to the self-initiated performance of works for measuring the load by a clip-on instrument up to 1 kV and the extension of the workplace and volume of the task a fatal accident occurred with electrician of the operative mobile team of the Kozhvinsky district of electric grids of the production subdivision Pechory Electric Grids of Komienergo branch of JSC IDGC of the North-West A.N.Titenok. Measures for prevention of similar incidents which had been planned based on the results of investigation were taken in full.

During the period from 2010 to 2012 no cases of occupational disease were registered.

In order to prevent occupational traumatism in JSC IDGC of the North-West the following documents were adopted and implemented:

  • plan of top-priority measures aimed at prevention of accidents and human error, including measures for:
    • prevention of accidents;
    • prevention of injuries and accidents on vehicles;
    • improvement of forms of work with personnel, including preparation to error-free actions in the conditions of increased responsibility or danger;
    • development of the system of assurance of psycho-physiological reliability of personnel;
    • extension of measures of influence on direct violators of occupational safety standards and officers who do not perform functions relating to occupational safety;
    • improvement of organizational and methodical work for occupational safety;
    • personnel life and health protection software;
    • motivation of personnel to work with no injuries and violation of the technology of performance of works and occupational safety requirements.
  • Plan of actions for reduction of risks of causing injuries to third parties, including activities for:
    • child traumatism prevention;
    • prevention of causing injuries to third parties;
    • prevention of causing injuries to contractors' employees.

Each subdivision of a branch is equipped with offices (corners) devoted to occupational safety where training activities are carried out, information stands and posters are placed, learning materials and simulators are provided.

Occupational Safety Day is held on a monthly basis in all subdivisions of the Company's branches in accordance with the approved Provisions on Occupational Safety Day. Prior to the commencement of a repair campaign and autumn-winter period special preparation activities are organized (additional training, orientation, practical training), which prepare personnel to performance of works in difficult conditions.
